Ten years ago, friends Rich Bartram & Ron Morgan had the fantastic idea of running a beer festival to raise funds for their local village school. With a mutual interest in real ale & craft beer they continued into creating the Two Crafty Brewers. Although production began with their ‘Redneck Cider,’ made with apples sourced from Hereford, the focus soon shifted to bottled and cask beers. Since then, the brand has grown into a small chain of pubs and now two Italian restaurants.

The business began to grow as Rich’s former local, The Sow & Pigs came up for sale in 2015. As Rich knew the pub & the area well, it became the Two Crafty Brewers first purchase, and after a quirky renovation, the duo now had somewhere to sell their product.

The next project came in 2016, when the team were tipped that the Grade II listed, The Crown Inn, Claverley, was to become available. The Two Crafty Brewers acquired The Crown, renovated it and opened it that summer to a great reception. Now run by Ken & Mary, The Crown has continued to be a pillar of their local community.

Later in 2016, news of a Worcester Landlord retiring broke, and the team jumped to acquire the neglected pub, also a listed building, The Lamb & Flag. In no time, the refurbishment began and the team replicated the themes from previous projects, creating a strong design link between their venues. Now with a beautiful urban interior and still serving the best pint of Guinness in the city, The Lamb & Flag is a must on anyone’s list visiting Worcester.

Along with the pub downstairs, The Lamb & Flag came with enough room upstairs to open a further venture. Enter SUGO. Now being run by our Italian hosts, originally from a small town in central Italy called Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region, Worcester’s favourite Italian opened its doors, serving fresh, traditional Italian food, and has become a staple in Worcester’s vibrant restaurant scene.

Fast forward to 2018, and SUGO are proud to have opened their second venue in the heart of Worcester. Now trading from The Tything and Friar Street after acquiring the former ‘La Galleria’ restaurant, it’s fair to say that the Two Crafty Brewers know how to spot an opportunity!
